There are many benefits that come along with playing the piano. Learning to play the piano can help with stress levels, self confidence, ability to entertain others, and even math skills.
The piano can be a great stress release. You can use it as a way to forget everything else that is going on in your life at that moment and focus only on the task of playing the piano. You could find some "angry" music and release that anger through your fingers by playing the piano instead of other more destructive activities.
Learning can help with your level of self confidence. Having another skill at your disposal will always help with self confidence. It's something you know that you can do, and not everyone else has that same skill. It can be a great way to impress a member of the opposite sex, or it could just be used as an ice breaker.
Entertaining can be another benefit from being able to play the piano. If you are in a group setting where a piano is available you always have the option of sitting down and playing for your audience. Many people find this entertaining, and might even have a little envy for you skills.
There has also been a proven correlation between music and math in the way of learning abilities. People who have a musical background tend to be better at learning math. This could be a great motivator in getting your child into piano lessons when they are you in hopes of helping them with other skills later on in life.
This is only a small list of benefits that come with learning to play the piano. There are many others that may also be important to you depending on your own motivations of learning.
